Play from a Social Development Perspective

Babies and children are naturally curious and inclined to explore, enjoying interaction with the living beings around them and accepting differences without prejudice. For a child to interact with their environment, they must first initiate communication or respond to a request for communication. Their curiosity, interest, and desire to explore prompt them to initiate communication in the desired direction. These characteristics of children play an ideal key role in play.

Behaviors such as greeting, talking, making friends, cooperating, competing, respecting others' rights, helping, resolving conflicts, and sharing, each of which is a social skill, are social characteristics acquired through play. In this respect, play has an educational function that supports socialization.

Children learn that they are not alone in their society, to respect others, not to rebel when their wishes are not fulfilled, and to accept their share and responsibilities. Through play, children move away from egocentric behavior and become socialized through adaptive behavior. In this context, the contribution of play to the individual in particular and to social life in general is quite important.
Almost every game contains elements that are beneficial to a child's social development. These elements can emerge in the planning, content, and implementation of the game. This quality of play teaches children to follow rules. When the child reaches adulthood, they will comply with the rules of society and become compatible with society. A person who is happy and successful when they find common ground with other people they interact with can achieve these characteristics through play.
